Habit Tracker App

UX/UI Design Case Study

April, 2023

Overview

The purpose of your project is to develop a habit tracker application to help young adults adopt healthy habits. This application will assist users in tracking their daily activities, goals, and progress.

The application will provide users with various options for tracking habits in different areas, such as exercising, healthy eating, drinking water, and meditating. Users can set their own goals and take the necessary steps to achieve them using the application.

Problem

Today, it has become increasingly difficult for young adults to develop and maintain healthy lifestyle habits. New technologies, the intensity of work and social life, stress, and emotional challenges make it hard to keep track of basic health habits such as physical activity, healthy eating, water intake, and sleep patterns.

Solution

The purpose of this project is to offer young adults a habit tracker application that will help them adopt and maintain healthy lifestyle habits. The application will offer users a variety of options for tracking healthy habits and motivate them to reach their goals. This will make it easier and more enjoyable for young adults to maintain healthy lifestyle habits.

My Role

UX designer leading the app and responsive website design from conception to delivery

My Responsibilities

  • Low and high-fidelity prototyping

  • Paper and digital wireframing

  • Conducting usability studies

  • Iterating on designs, determining information architecture

  • Responsive design

User Research

The user research for this project aimed to gather insights and feedback from young adults regarding their current habits and challenges related to developing and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits.

I conducted online surveys and in-person interviews with a diverse group of young adults to understand their needs, motivations, and pain points related to healthy habits. The findings from the user research helped inform the development of the habit tracker application and ensure that it meets the needs and preferences of the target user group.

Ideation

I did a quick ideation exercise to come up with ideas for how to address gaps identified in the competitive audit. My focus was specifically on creating habits easily.

Usability Study

Study type:Unmoderated usability study

Location: Turkey, remote

Participants:5 participants

Length: 30-60 minutes

1. Navigation and labeling:

Participants had difficulty navigating the app and understanding the labeling of certain features. Specifically, some participants were unsure of how to access certain screens and found the labeling of some buttons to be unclear.

2. Customization options:

Participants expressed a strong desire for more customization options in terms of habit tracking. They wanted to be able to personalize the app to fit their specific needs and preferences.

3.Feedback and motivation:

Participants felt that the app could benefit from more feedback and motivational features. They wanted to see more visual representations of their progress and receive positive reinforcement for meeting their goals.

Accessibility Considerations

Color contrast:
To ensure that the app is accessible to users with visual impairments, it's important to use high-contrast colors that are easy to distinguish. This includes ensuring that the text and icons are easily readable against the background color of the app.

Screen reader compatibility:
To ensure that the app is accessible to users with visual impairments who use screen readers, it's important to design the app with proper semantic markup and labeling. This includes using descriptive alt text for images and icons, properly labeling form fields, and ensuring that the app is compatible with screen readers.

Takeaways

Based on our user research and usability study, we should prioritize improvements to navigation and labeling, customization options, and feedback and motivational features in future iterations of the app.

By understanding our users' pain points and goals, we can create a habit tracker app that not only helps users develop healthy habits, but also improves their overall quality of life.

To improve the accessibility of our app, we need to focus on color contrast and screen reader compatibility to ensure that all users can access and use the app effectively.
